On March 22, the Kazakh people living in Mongolia widely celebrate the traditional spring festival Nauryz, where the day and night are of equal length. Kazakh people occupy about four percent of Mongolia’s population.
The word Nauryz derives from Iranian Now (New) and Ruz (Day) words, indicating that this is the first day of the year. In Kazakh language, Nauryz refers to a celebration of the rejuvenescence of nature and life.
On March 18 The President of Mongolia Ts.Elbegdorj attended the ceremonial concert for Nauryz dedicated to the Nauryz and delivered greetings to the Kazakh people. He congratulated them on the excellent 150 percent GDP growth and the increase of workplaces by more than 5,000 within the last three years in Bayan-Olgii province where Kazakh people are making up over 90 percent of its population.
On this day, Kazakh people dress up in their traditional costumes, greet each other and wish a whole year of health, happiness and success.
