Yesterday, on the 28th of January, 2016, Mongolian Parliament discussed the issue of dismissing Prime Minister of Mongolia Mr Saikhanbileg. 19 MPs submitted this issue on January 19th to Parliament. The proposal concerned the fact that the Government of Mongolia has signed the Oyu Tolgoi Underground Mine Development Financial Plan with the one side of Oyu Tolgoi agreement, which is Turquoise Hill Resources and Rio Tinto combined.
Members of Parliament considered that this has reduced the dividends for Mongolia, and caused an uncertainty about timing of receiving dividends. Also, in order for the investment agreement to become mutually beneficial, some actions should be taken, as only 8-9 percent of total sales revenue are paid as taxes and contribution to Mongolia’s state budget.
However, the parliament had addressed the issue and had decided that the 13th Prime Minister of Mongolia Mr Saikhanbileg should not be dismissed as the economic stability must be maintained. Thus, the Cabinet of Solutions survives.
