Exports of frozen seafood still booming

BANGKOK, March 26 (TNA) -- Despite sluggishness of global economy, Thailand’s exports of frozen seafood in 2016 are projected to sustain growth of approximately 10 per cent, said Poj Aramwattananont, president of Thai Frozen Foods Association and also CEO of Sea Value Group, Thailand's leading tuna and seafood producers. Although the Bank of Thailand has recently lower its projections on this year’s Thailand’s exports to 2 per cent contraction due to poor global economy, Mr Poj said his association is optimistic that exports of frozen shrimp would sustain growth between 10 – 15 per cent from last year and the country would earn 58 billion baht. Exports of tuna are projected to grow 10 per cent from last year’s exports which helped the country to earn 80 billion baht, he said. Exports of squid are expected to remain steady and the country would earn 30 billion baht after the Indonesian government continues to bar Thai fishing trawlers from fishing in its territorial waters. Sales of canned tuna are expected to remain bullish in 2016 because of its good quality while prices are reasonable, Mr Poj added. (TNA)
