Farmers call for new government to support rice prices

BANGKOK, September 1 (TNA) - Local farmers have called for the new Thai government to support paddy prices, as the country's second-crop rice yields will come out later this month. Wichien Phuanglamjiak, President of the Thai Agriculturists Association, made the call on behalf of Thai farmers on Monday, saying that the new government should act quickly to timely assist local farmers whose plenty of second-crop rice yields will come out to the market later this month. Wichien pointed out that the rice-pledging scheme of the previous government has ended and buyers have, thus, lowered paddy prices, causing local farmers to earn less income. (TNA)
