GCC Consumer Protection Seeks to Enhance Exchange of Information

Doha, June 15 (QNA) - The secretaries and directors of the GCC Consumer Protection departments discussed Sunday during their 5th meeting an initiative to develop a common list of GCC commodity prices and the exchange of information, said HE Director of the Department of Consumer Protection at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce Sheikh Jassim bin Jabor Al-Thani. In a press statement following the meeting, he said that there are other initiatives relating to the automotive sector and after-sales services in the gulf market and approved workshops for the maintenance and repair of cars. On combating commercial fraud, he said that the Consumer Protection Department had taken several punitive measures against any violators, adding that they had detected a number of commercial fraud operations and reported them in media outlets along with punitive measures taken against them. He noted that the Ministry of Economy and Commerce in cooperation with suppliers will launch two initiatives on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan to ensure provision of consumer goods and meat and will be offered at the retail outlets one week before Ramadan.
