MAHB Welcomes British Airways' KL-London Flight Resumption

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 17 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has welcomes the British Airways' Kuala Lumpur-London flight resumption, describing it as a major achievement for the company. MAHB Managing Director Datuk Badlisham Ghazali said the direct flights would bring a profound impact to the good bilateral ties between Malaysia and the UK. "Many more opportunities will be generated through this air service, be it in the economic, political, social and cultural dimensions,” he said in a statement today. British Airways will resume direct daily flights from Kuala Lumpur to London from May 27, 2015, after suspending the route in 2001 as global travel slowed down after the Sept 11 bombing of the New York World Trade Centre. The announcement was made at the British High Commissioner to Malaysia's residence here today by Jamie Cassidy, British Airways Area General Manager for the Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa. He said the routes were being revived in response to strong customer demand for direct flights from London to Kuala Lumpur. "As Malaysia's economy grows, it is becoming an even more important trading partner with the UK, and Britain has long been a favourite destination for Malaysians to shop, to experience historical sites and culture, and to study," he said. The daily service would be operated by a four-cabin Boeing 777-200ER. --BERNAMA
