Malaysian Exhibitors Clinch Sales Worth US$303.34 Million In Yangon

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 23 (Bernama) -- Malaysian exhibitors clinched sales worth US$303.34 million (RM991 million) during the Malaysia Services Exhibition and Showcase Malaysia 2014 in Myanmar, recently. Of 70 Malaysian companies, 35 of them promoted their services while the others showcased their products at the four-day exhibition in Yangon from Oct 1, the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) said in a statement. Among services that generated interests were consultancy and support services for oil and gas industry, corporate training and education programmes, franchising businesses, machinery, and formwork systems. The national trade promotion agency said products sought included health and wellness, generators, lightings, a heat exchanger, a steam boiler, timber flooring, an industrial waste bin, paint materials, water fittings, spa, food and beverages, and household wares. A total of 1,000 business meetings between Malaysian and Myanmar companies were arranged during the exhibition, apart from workshops for the delegation, including women entrepreneurs, to forge networking and explore strategic partnership in professional engineering services and education. In addition, a cross-border programme encompassing meetings with local government officials and business leaders was also held to explore investment opportunities and market access in the fast emerging market. The programme also identified joint-venture investment opportunities in designing and construction of an exhibition and convention centre in Yangon, a shopping complex, also in Yangon, hotels and resorts in various parts of Myanmar, tourism projects, and construction and interior design works. Investment opportunities cited included private hospital, housing, integrated public transportation hub, and tourism-related projects. --BERNAMA
