Microsoft Honours Malaysian Government With "eGovernment Excellence Award"

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), Sept 30 (Bernama) -- Microsoft Malaysia has honoured the Malaysian government with the "eGovernment Excellence Award" for its initiatives to leverage on innovative technologies to transform the country. Microsoft International president, Jean-Philippe Courtois, presented the award to Secretary-General of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), Dr Noorul Ainur Mohd Nur, at the Innovative Government 2.0 Summit here Monday. Noorul Ainur accepted the award on behalf of the government. The one-day event showcases the Malaysian government's initiatives to enhance public services for the benefit of all Malaysians. In his speech, Courtois said, Microsof started its commitment in Malaysia in 1992 as a Multimedia Super Corridor-status company. "After 22 years here in Malaysia, we now have two offices and over 250 employees," he said. Meanwhile, Chief Secretary to the Government, Dr Ali Hamsa, said to achieve the objectives of the National Information Communications Technology Strategic Plan, the government adopted the citizen-centric and the "whole-of-government" approaches which combined people, process and technology to support policy formulation, programme development and delivery outcomes. "This innovative approach is being implemented aggressively by the government in pursuit of achieving several targets such as 90 per cent of public services and transactions to be made available online, and 70 per cent of intra-government communications are conducted online," he said. He said several impactful initiatives were being undertaken towards this end, such as the consolidation of the government data centres, government cloud computing and government mobile computing. --BERNAMA
