Thai PM:Government is looking into single Internet gateway project

BANGKOK, October 7 (TNA) - Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha says that his government is looking into the possibility of the proposed single international Internet gateway project and will not implement it if it is found to violate laws or human rights. Prime Minister General Prayut stressed on the stance on Wednesday, pointing out, however, that Thailand needs some measures to protect public and national interest from bad content on social media. Meanwhile, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Minister Uttama Savanayana told journalists that cyber security issues interest the international community and the Thai government is determined to protect domestic Internet systems from all degrees of threats. Uttama insisted that the single Internet gateway project is only being studied with its implementation having not yet started, warning that opponents of the project, including those who recently attacked the government's websites, to express their protests against the project will face legal actions.
