Nazeri Concerned About Vocal Music

Tehran, Sept 10, IRNA - Iranian tenor, Shahram Nazeri, maintains that improper teaching of singing techniques has resulted in the poor performance of participants in the vocal section of the Eighth Youth Music Festival. Speaking on the sidelines of the festival on Tuesday, Nazeri, a member of the event’s jury panel, said, “Of course the youth are not to blame because there are fundamental problems in instructing singing techniques in Iran which amplifies worries in this regard.” “Unfortunately, teaching singing techniques has not been devised on the basis of an effective method or a national cultural purpose. Consequently, Iranian artists have been left to themselves and gone astray.” Nevertheless, holding a festival specifically for young artists is a praiseworthy initiative, he said. Commenting on the participants, Nazeri said that some of the participants could better meet his expectations, though he expected more. “Holding such festivals in which the members of an art council opine on young artists’ performance has a positive impact.” The veteran vocalist said though the festival does not live up to the standards of the Iranian music society, the opportunity should be used to help Iranian young generation make progress and learn about their shortcomings. He said the participants’ level in the previous edition of the event was comparatively higher than that of this year’s. The ongoing festival which is underway at Roudaki Hall and Iranian Artists Forum in Tehran will wind up on September 12./end
