8th ASEAN-China SOM on DOC ends in Bangkok

BANGKOK, October 30 (TNA) - The 8th ASEAN-China Senior Officials’ Meeting on the Implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (8th ASEAN-China SOM on DOC), held in Bangkok from October 28-29, has successfully been concluded. Thai Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow told journalists on Wednesday, after co-chairing the 8th ASEAN-China SOM on DOC with Vice Chinese Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin, that both sides agreed to support cooperation between the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and China at the levels of senior officials and working groups. Sihasak stated that China realized the importance of the ASEAN-China Joint Working Group (JWG) on the Implementation of the DOC. Besides, the two-day regional meeting agreed with the ASEAN-China JWG's proposals on the setting up of a hotline for emergency cases in the sea and for phone contacts between ASEAN-China's senior officials and on a plan for ASEAN-China command-based search and rescue exercises.
