Documentary heritage put on display in Bangkok

BANGKOK, Jan 18 (TNA) – The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has showcased photos of documentary heritage of universal value at an exhibition in Bangkok. The exhibition, entitled “The Memory of the World: Documentary Heritage in Asia and the Pacific” is held at the Bangkok Art and Culture Center. In the Asia-Pacific region, the total of 91 items were listed on the Memory of the World International Register, including the Epigraphic Archives of Wat Pho. The stone inscriptions at Wat Pho were made between 1831 and 1841. They represent a wide range of Thai and Asian knowledge of over five centuries of exchange in trade, politics and culture within Asia and beyond. Misako Ito, Adviser in Communication and Information, UNESCO Bangkok Office said the exhibition was aimed at giving opportunity to young people to learn about the value of the historic documentary materials and to raise awareness on conservation of the shared documentary heritage among them. Opened yesterday, the exhibition will run until Jan 29 and will move to the UNESCO Bangkok Office from Jan 30 onwards. (TNA)
