Impeachment agenda against former top Thai parliamentarians set

BANGKOK, November 26 (TNA) - The whip committee of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) has tentatively set the impeachment agenda against former House speaker Somsak Kiatsuranont and former Senate speaker Nikhom Wairatpanij in early January 2015. NLA First Vice President Surachai Liangboonlertchai, who is also deputy head of the NLA whip committee, told journalists of the tentative agenda on Wednesday. Surachai said the NLA will decide on November 27 whether it will allow Nikhom to present additional evidence and witnesses, as earlier requested by him. Surachai noted representatives of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) will state whether the independent anti-graft commission will object Nikhom's additional evidence and witnesses. According to the NLA first vice president, the NLA whip committee will then set the date for the beginning of the NLA's impeachment process against the former top Thai parliamentarians, which is initially planned on either January 8 or 9, 2015, afterwards, the NLA will form a 21-member inquiry committee to handle the case and the process should be finished within January 2015. The NLA will, meanwhile, meet on November 28 to set the beginning of the impeachment process against former Thai prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra. (TNA)
