Malaysian Nasuha Kasian Hopes To Set Up Country's First Herbal Medicine Faculty

PAGOH (Johor, Malaysia), May 28 (Bernama) -- Having ventured into the herbal and spice industry since the last 42 years, it is Nasuha Kasian's dream to set up the country's first herbal medicine faculty. At present his company Budayatama Corporation Sdn Bhd, which produced herbal based porducts, has already taken steps in that direction with opportunities for training and research to anyone to study in the field at his farm. "Our target is students of institutes of higher learning and so far about 1,000 people have been trained with most of them pharmacy students while the rest are lecturers from local universities," the 65-year-old Nasuha told Bernama here recently. Ladang Nasuha (Nasuha Herbal Farm), located in Jalan Muar-Pagoh in the southern state of Johor, has 6,000 types of herbs sourced locally and overseas and was opened in 1974. It is capable of producing six to 10 tonnes of raw material daily and among the farm's products are 'Nasuha CT Herbs Spices' and a variety of spices under the brand name 'Mak Siti'. However, he said the establishment of the faculty would have to depend on the keeness of universities to jointly conduct researches and knowledge sharing. To realise his dream, he said a library and laboratory were also being provided at his farm here with the hopes that it could become a centre of research and reference to interested parties. According to him, he would do anything to attend conferences abroad such as in Japan and France to deepen his knowledge and experience in the field. Despite his age, he was still learning as more knowledge obtained, the more things he could share with the people, Nasuha said. "If not for us, who else will elevate the herbal medicine industry that benefits global community in terms of health care," he added. -- BERNAMA
