Tsereteli sculpture gift celebrates Russia-China arts world partnership

BEIJING, October 6, 2015. /TASS/. Russian sculptor Zurab Tsereteli presented his bronze statue "Peace" to China's National Art Museum on Tuesday as the Chinese institution and Russia's Academy of Arts, headed by the sculptor, confirmed links with a partnership agreement. Russian and Chinese flags adorn the base of a work shaped into two hands releasing a dove - symbol of peace. "I am happy China values Russian art," Tsereteli told TASS. "The agreement signed today marks the start of long-term co-operation between Russian and Chinese artists." Tsereteli, a graduate from Tbilisi Academy of Sciences in Georgia, actively began his artistic career working in architecture at the end of the 1960s. Notably, this conceived a sculpture ensemble for the Black Sea resort town of Pitsunda in Abkhazia and a fountain complex and sculptures on central Moscow’s Manezh Square. His sculptures can be found in Brazil, Great Britain, Spain, the United States, France, Japan and Lithuania. His most ambitious projects in Moscow are the Peter the Great statue and "Friendship Forever", a monument built to mark the 200th anniversary of Georgia’s joining the Russian Empire in 1783.
