Jundallah Claims Responsibility For Bus Attack In Pakistan

Islamabad, Feb 29, IRNA -- Terrorist group Jundallah has claimed the responsibility of an attack on a passenger bus which killed 18 people in Pakistan’s northern district of Kohistan on Tuesday. Jundallah’s commander Ahmed Marwat talking to media persons claimed responsibility for the attack. At least 18 people were killed when gunmen opened fire on a passenger bus going to Gilgit from Rawalpindi with 28 passengers on board. The ambush happened near the town of Harban Nullah. The deceased and injured were shifted to hospital in the town of Chilas. Most of the victims were pilgrims who were going back to their native areas after visiting holy shrines in Iran. “All the people on board were Shia” a senior police official told media. 'Armed men hiding on both sides of the road attacked the bus,' local police chief Mohammad Ilyas said. Commissioner Hazara Khalid Omarzai talking to media also confirmed the death of 18 people. Interior Minister Rehman Malik has assigned a three-member team to investigate the incident. The team will comprise members from Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Intelligence Bureau (IB) and police officials. President Asif Ali Zardari, has taken notice of the attack and said that the injured admitted in the hospital should be provided with the best treatment. President Zardari also sought an investigative report of the attack. Chief of Pakistani major political party has condemned the attack in strongest possible words. Altaf Hussain of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) termed the incident as an open act of terrorism./end
