Apollo, Ramsay Sime Darby Partner To Provide Diabetes Care In Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 24 (Bernama) -- India-based Apollo Health & Lifestyle Ltd (Apollo) and Ramsay Sime Darby Healthcare (Ramsay) are collaborating to pool their resources and expertise to provide world class care to diabetes patients in Malaysia. The partnership will facilitate such services to be offered in Ramsay's owned hospitals and expand across neighbourhood clinics. They also aim to work closely with local communities to improve screening, early detection, awareness and management of diabetes amongst the general population. Apollo, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd (AHEL), is a leading player in the retail healthcare segment in India. The company Tuesday runs the largest chain of standardised primary healthcare models that include multispecialty clinics under the brand 'Apollo Clinics' in India and the Middle East and diagnostic centres under the brand 'Apollo Diagnostics'. AHEL Managing Director and Apollo Chairperson Suneeta Reddy said the programme covered both diabetes treatment and prevention and treatment of all complications orelated to diabetes. "Our programmes are aimed at enabling diabetics lead a normal life. Across India, we deliver care to over 200,000 diabetic patients through nearly 100 clinics. "We aim to help them (patients in Malaysia) lead a disease free lifestyle, and avoid the havoc that diabetes and its complications can cause on them and their families," Suneeta added. Malaysia with 3.2 million diabetics has one of the highest diabetes prevalent rate among adults worldwide, whereby estimates indicate that one in six adults have diabetes. Globally, diabetes and its complications caused 1.2 million deaths in 2014, the highest mortality rate across the world.
