M'sian Hospitals' HSB, HSNZ Taking Necessary Steps To Combat Ebola

ALOR SETAR (Kedah, Malaysia), Oct 30 (Bernama) -- The Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) in Alor Setar, Kedah and the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) in Kuala Terengganu, are preparing their staff to manage the threat of Ebola. The HSB Wednesday carried out a simulation exercise to transfer an Ebola patient from HSB to the Sungai Buloh Hospital in Selangor and test the procedures and steps to manage the patient affected by the virus. HSB director Dr Juita Ghazalie said if there were weaknesses in the procedures identified during the simulation exercise, the hospital would take the necessary action to rectify the situation. "The simulation exercise will ensure if there is a smooth operating procedure in the management of the patient from here to the intended destination. The staff need to know their respective roles and responsibilities. "The exercise also involves the police, Fire and Rescue Department and hospital security," she told reporters after witnessing the exercise, here Wednesday. IN KUALA TERENGGANU, HSNZ director Dr Abdul Rahim Abdullah said the hospital and the Health Ministry were taking drastic measures to combat the Ebola virus. "We are working closely with all the main entry points, including airports and ports. Those coming into the country from abroad will be screened using equipment. "We have enough equipment and facilities to face any eventuality of the Ebola virus," she told reporters after the HSNZ 2014 Health Carnival, here Wednesday. -- BERNAMA
