2016 Olympic Day activities to conclude at BIC tomorrow

Manama, May 26 (BNA): The two-week 2016 Olympic Day festivities will come to an end today (Friday) at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir. The Olympic Day activities are being organised by the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) in cooperation with Bahrain’s four governorates and the Bahrain Roadrunners. A variety of sports and entertaining activities are scheduled to take place today from 3pm until 7pm as part of this annual occasion as Bahrain joins other parts of the world to celebrate the event. Today’s main activity will be the fifth running race competition in the Olympic Day festivities. There will be races for four age categories, namely 6-8 years (800 metres), 9-11 years (1km), 12-14 years (1.2km), 15 years and above (5.3km), in addition to a race for people with special needs. The races, which tip off at 5pm, will take place at the BIC. Registration is already available online at ems.bahrainroadrunners.com, and at the race venue. Other activities of the day include a cycling race, a challenging multi-sport contest, a trade exhibition, a motorbike and classic cars exhibitions, an entertaining gymnastic show, a martial arts show, sports and entertaining children games, a in addition to a performance by a group of parachutes. The events will be followed by the awards ceremony from 6pm onwards, during which the winners in all the activities will receive valuable awards. Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Work and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman, and BOC president, is patronizing the Olympic Day finale. BOC general secretary Abdulrahman Askar thanked all four governorates for organising the races over the past two weeks, and commended the arrangements undertaken by the organising committee in preparation for today’s last day. Askar asserted the importance of bringing these festivities to Bahrain, an event celebrated worldwide in an attempt to promote the Olympic values, which include friendship, respect and excellence. He commended the directives of Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa to ensure the success of these activities, which targets all segments of the Bahrain community of all ages. The BOC General secretary added it’s a great honor to bring such an occasion to celebrate the Olympic Day across Bahrain in bid to boost health and creativity among the communities, especially the youth.
