BOC secretary-general hails handball team results

Manama, Feb. 9 (BNA): Bahrain Olympic Committee general secretary Abdulrahman Askar has valued the Bahrain national handball team's recent achievement by reaching the next World Championship for the third successive time, and asserted the committee’s support to the team in its next challenge to achieve the kingdom’s aspirations. The nationals finished second at the recently-concluded 17th Asian Championship in Bahrain, thus ensuring themselves a place in the 2017 World Championship finals in France. This statement was announced after his meeting with Bahrain Handball Association president Ali Isa Isaaqi, board members of the association and five members of the team. Team skipper Jaffer Abdulqader, along with teammates Sadeq Ali, Mohammed Abdulhussain, Hussain Al Sayyad and Jassim Al Salatna, all arrived at the committee premises in Seef to thank Askar for his significant contributions to the team during the tournament, which helped them team finish second behind champions Qatar. Askar congratulated the team on the achievement, which proves the rapid progress of handball in Bahrain. He noted that the committee will continue its plan to support the team in order to boost their participation in the world’s most prestigious handball event. The BOC general secretary conveyed the greetings ofShaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman and committee to the team and his best wishes for them. Isaaq expressed gratitude to the BOC and Shaikh Nasser for what they have offered to the team prior and during the competition, which played a major part in this achievement.
