Iran kills the dragon in the first step: volleyball

TEHRAN, Sept.1 (MNA) – Iran’s men’s volleyball defeated Italy in the first match in Poland during FIVB World Championship. Slobodan Kovač’s men crushed Italy 3-1 winning the first, third and fourth sets in the first step toward the next round. Iran played with Amir Ghafour, Farhad Zarif, Mohammad Mousavi, Mojtaba Mirzajanpour, and Farhad Qaemi. Iran lost second set 23-25 to Italy. The win is a great achievement for Iran since Italy is the winner of three gold medals and single bronze in its brilliant records in 1978, and three consecutive championships in 1990, 1994, and 1998. In Group D Iran will play with Italy, US, France, Puerto Rico, and Belgium after an off day in the second day, and in the third, they will meet the US as its second match in the qualifiers. Poland’s four cities host the event where 24 teams in six groups compete during 9 days.
