Pandelela-Nur Dhabitah Deliver Bronze Medal Despite Last Minute Pairing

EDINBURGH, July 31 (Bernama) -- In just three days of training, the Malaysian diving pair of Pandelela Rinong Pamg and Nur Dhabitah Sabri were able to grab the bronze medal in the women's 10m synchronised platform event at the 20th Commonwealth Games. The duo (left) collected a score of 300.12 points at the competition held at the Royal Commonwealth Pool. "This is most unexpected as we only trained together for three days here. I admit the competition here is very stiff with world champions from Canada and England," said Pandelela. According to her, both of them put their full concentration on the jumps and did not keep tab of the score at all. It was after the fourth jump when Pandelela and Nur Dhabitah realised they were trailing the runners-up. "My regular partner in this event is Mun Yee or Jun Hoong as we have been training together for quite some time, so I was quite surprised when my coach told me to partner Dhabitah. "We were quite nervous at the beginning of our dives. Competing with world champions like Canada, was a good experience for me with Nur Dhabitah as the new partner," the Olympic bronze medalist said. For Nur Dhabitah who is competing in her first Commonwealth Games, winning the bronze medal was priceless. "I am very happy as I did not expect to win any medals. The win is a big boost to me for the coming events," she said. The gold medal was won by Meaghan Benfeito and Roseline Filion of Canada with 310.65 points and the silver went to Sarah Barrow and Tonia Couch of England with 307.92 points. Meanwhile another Malaysian diving pair, Leong Mun Yee and Cheong Jun Hoong were placed fourth with 298.92 points. Malaysian divers will in action this evening in the men's 1m springboard and the women's 3m synchronised springboard events. (photoBERNAMA) --BERNAMA
