Shuttler Keeps YOG 2014 Medal Hopes Alive After Moving Making Mixed Doubles Semifinals

From AHMAD MULIADY ABDUL MAJID NANJING, Aug 21 (Bernama) -- Badminton kept Malaysia's hopes of winning at least a medal in the Youth Olympic Games (YOG 2014) alive when Cheam June Wei booked a berth in the semifinals of the mixed doubles competition at the Gymnasium Sports Centre, here Wednesday. In the quarterfinal action Wednesday, June Wei partnered Ng Tsz Yau from Hong Kong to beat Lee Ying Ying (MAS)/Lu Chia Hung (Taiwan) 21-16, 21-19 and make amends for his unexpected exit in the quarterfinals of the men's singles competition. June Wei lost 22-20, 18-21, 12-21 to India's Joshi Aditiya. June Wei and Tsz Yau will face Angoda Vidanalage (Sri Lanka)/He Bing Jio (China) in the semifinal Thursday. The Sri Lanka/China combination pair had earlier defeated Beton Katarina ( Slovenia)/Ginting Anthony Sini Suka (Indonesia) 18-21, 21-12, 21-17. -- BERNAMA
