Labuan Eyes Sports Tourism To Boost Economy

LABUAN (Malaysia), Oct 17 (Bernama) -- Sports tourism is seen as a potential boost to the economy of Labuan apart from the 10 existing tourism products on the tax-free haven island, said Labuan member of Parliament Rozman Isli. Rozman said the effort of Labuan in organising international standard sports is a strategy capable of luring tourists to the island as it combined the concept of sports and tourism to give positive impact to the island's economy. "International sporting events will gain world attention as well as attract participants and spectators to watch the top actions on the island," he told Bernama here Thursday. Rozman said among the sporting events held on the island were Labuan International Duathlon Championship, Labuan International Sailing Challenge and the Universal Shotokan Karate Union (USKU) International Karate championship. -- BERNAMA
