Malaysia's Kuching City To Host Third International Orchid Show From Sept 10

KUCHING (Sarawak, Malaysia), Sept 2 (Bernama) -- The Third International Orchid Show will be held in Kuching city of east Malaysian state, Sarawak for four days beginning Sept 10. It will be hosted by Kuching City North Hall, its mayor, Abang Abdul Wahab Abang Julai told the media here Wednesday. He said 17 teams from 13 countries would participate in the exhibition-cum-competition to be held at its orchid garden at Astana Road. The participating countries include Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, Hong Kong, China, Brunei, Thailand and Korea. He said Chief Minister Adenan Satem would open the show on Sept 10. In a related development, Abang Abdul Wahab said Kuching would host the prestigious 13th Asia/Pacific Orchid Conference in 2019, after winning a bid to host it in the last conference in Osaka, Japan recently. He said the city would also host the Second International Conference on City With A Soul, to be held on Sept 7 and 8. To-date 200 participants from various city halls, municipalities, district and rural councils nationwide had registered for the conference to provide a venue for them to exchange ideas and experiences on making a clean, beautiful and safe city, he added. He said prominent speakers like Paul Scriven, a councillor and leader of the Sheffield City Council (UK) and Curtin University lecturer Professor Steffen Lehman from Australia would speak at the event. "Besides them, we will have the former vice-mayor of Seoul Metropolitan Government Choi Jae-Bum and Byun Ju Young, the director general (Investment Promotion Bureau) of Incheon City to share with us their experiences," he added. --BERNAMA
