Tangerang, Banten, Jan 15 (ANTARA) - A six-year old boy, Rangga Rahayu died after he was carried away by flood currents under a bridge over the Anak Kali Angke river at Petir village, Cipondoh sub disrict, Tangerang city, on Thursday.
"Before he was carried away by the water currents, the victim was playing with his two peers, Wati and Banyu, on the river bank," Wahyudin (30), a local resident, said.
He said that when they were playing on the river bank, they slipped and slid into the river and Rangga Rahayu was then carried away by swift water currents.
Wahyudin who was not far from the scene when the incident happened heard the scream and rushed to the location. He saw Banyu and Wati were still not so far from the river bank.
Wahyudin and other residents succeeded in rescuing Wati and Banyu but failed to save Rangga Rahayu whose position was in the middle of the river currents which swiftly carried him away.
Residents continued to search for Rahayu and finally succeeded in locating him several hours later but he was already dead.
The victim was found some 50 meters from the river bank where he slipped into the water.
At that time, the water surface of Anak Kali Angke river was high following high rainfall in the past three consecutive days.
