Portugal's Vision-Box Expands Presence In Region With COE In Kuala Lumpur
By Anas Abu Hassan
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 5 (Bernama) -- Vision-Box, a Portugal-based biometric automated border control systems and integrated electronic identity management provider, has set up its centre of excellence (COE) in Malaysia to expand its presence in the region.
Founder and chief executive officer Miguel Leitmann said that being the COE for the Southeast Asian region, the centre will include professional services, operational support and development of its technology hub.
"With this centre, Vision-Box will provide an end-to-end solution which envisages the installation of heavy duty hardware, networks, cabling, civil works, and then integration with back-end systems from a diversity of stakeholders.
"Malaysia is the perfect environment to implement our technologies of seamless travel experience and we have a very good partnership and clients that share with us the same vision," he told Bernama in an interview.
In April 2021, Vision-Box was awarded the Single Token project by Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) for the implementation of a biometric digital identity management system at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
Meanwhile, in October last year, Vision-Box also established a strategic partnership with AirAsia Group to deliver the very best strategies that will be uniquely conceived, designed and built for the next generation of transformative identity management platforms.
"At the moment, we are deploying our technology in MAHB and that will also integrate with other airlines operating in KLIA, as well as within the region.
"With the stronghold of having the CoE in Malaysia, it is very important for us to be able to support all the projects that we are currently working on in this region," Leitmann said.
He noted that Vision-Box's core technology is a biometrics system which is embedded in the documents when a passenger is travelling which includes security, travel documents, visa, e-passports to identify users or persons without having physical documents.
"Vision-Box has specialised in this area for many years and is one of the market leaders. We developed and deployed a biometric service platform which we call Orchestra Service Platform that provides real-time data sharing and monitoring of travellers.
"This platform is intended to provide an environment for airlines, airport operators and even border control authorities to share processes, which focus on optimising and increasing security for the traveller with their travel documents" he said.
Leitmann said the platform offers a very efficient service in operation where it can be used for check-in and boarding as the passengers have the advantages of not using or showing any hard-copy documents within the airport system.
"It is a very seamless, efficient and very easy process to experience. The passenger journey in the airport can be on the departure process, as well as on the arrivals as it can be integrated between different airports and countries," he said.
