Al-Raya, Al-Sharq: Qatari Sports Brilliance Result of Long Years of Planning, Preparation and Training

Doha, August 08 (QNA) - In their editorials Sunday, Al-Raya and Al-Sharq newspapers affirmed that Qatari sport is living its golden age thanks to the great interest and comprehensive care given by the wise leadership, which contributed to placing Qatar on the world sports map. In this regard, the two newspapers highlighted HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani's welcome and HH Personal Representative of HH the Amir Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani's reception to the Team Qatar Olympic mission (Al-Adaam), which was crowned two gold medals in high jump and weightlifting and a bronze medal in beach volleyball at Tokyo 2020 Olympics, headed by HE President of Qatar Olympic Committee Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, at Doha International Airport on Saturday evening, noting that this reflects the country's appreciation at the highest levels for the great achievement of Tokyo Olympic champions and the outstanding performance of the team's champions at the Olympics. For its part, Al-Raya newspaper said that Qatar has made brilliant achievements with the return of our Olympic medal-winners, headed by HE President of Qatar Olympic Committee Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani. With two gold medals for Qatar's champions Faris Ibrahim in weightlifting and Mutaz Barshim in long jump, as well as the bronze medal in beach volleyball, Qatar has concluded its participation in Tokyo Olympics with the honorable presence of the Arabs, as it topped the Arab countries participating in the global event, the newspaper noted. At the end of its editorial, Al-Raya said that the recent Qatari sports brilliance is the result of long years of planning and great efforts in preparation and training which was shown in sports teams and athletes achievements in various games. The paper said that the State of Qatar accomplished three medals in the Olympics for the first time - two gold medals for weightlifter Fares Ibrahim in the 96 kg weightlifting and champion Mutaz Barshim in high jump, and one bronze medal in the beach volleyball which is the first medal for an Arab country in a team sports. In conclusion Al-Sharq affirmed that the distinguished results achieved in the Olympics are the fruit of the unlimited support to the sports sector by HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, adding that these achievements confirm the success of the State's strategy and plans related to sports.
