Al-Sharq, Al-Watan Hails Qatar's New Sport Achievement

Doha, August 01 (QNA) - In their editorials Sunday, Al-Sharq and Al-Watan newspapers hailed the great historic achievement of the State of Qatar on Saturday, by winning the first gold medal in the history of its participation in the Olympic Games, by weightlifter Faris Ibrahim, who also managed to achieve a new Olympic record, placing Qatar in the ranks of the countries that won gold medals in the largest sport event in the world. In this regard, the two newspapers highlighted the congratulations of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to the hero Faris Ibrahim for winning the first gold medal in the history of Qatar's participation in the Olympics, as HH the Amir tweeted, through HH's official account on twitter, saying: "We congratulate the hero, Faris Ibrahim, for winning the gold medal. Proud of you." Al-Sharq newspaper said in its editorial that this medal, the sixth for Qatar in the history of its participation in the Olympics and the first gold, represents a strong motivation for the most supportive athletes in order to achieve honorable results for Qatar's participation in Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games. This achievement is an extension of a long series of achievements that the State of Qatar has been achieving in various forms of sports and in all regional and international competitions, including winning the Asian Football Cup, as well as winning the Asian Men's Handball Championship four times and many other tournaments, the newspaper noted. This record is the result of the great efforts of the State of Qatar and the great attention it attaches to sports at the highest levels, as sports constitute a major pillar in the Qatar National Vision 2030, the paper added. Al-Sharq concluded by saying that the State of Qatar has become a global hub for sports thanks to the support and directives of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. In its editorial, Al-Watan said that it is an exceptional day in the record of the State of Qatar's sport achievements, which would not have been accomplished without the tremendous efforts that have been made over the years. In this regard, the newspaper referred to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani's congratulations on HH's official twitter account to Qatar's weightlifter Faris Ibrahim for winning the first gold medal in the history of Qatar's participation in the Olympics, saying: "We congratulate the hero, Faris Ibrahim, for winning the gold medal. Proud of you." Qatari weightlifter Faris Ibrahim's victory has many important connotations, as he was able to set a new Olympic record, the paper said, noting that this confirms that the plans drawn by Qatar to excel in the field of sports have yielded many positive results, thanks to the keenness of the wise leadership, under the guidance of HH the Amir, to enable Qatari youth to succeed in sport. The paper also affirmed HE President of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani's role and his support for players participating in this games, and before that the wonderful efforts made by the Qatar Olympic Committee, headed by HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, to qualify and enable Qatari players to compete and prove their unique abilities. In conclusion, Al-Watan said that it is a day of pride for Qatari sport, which was able to prove that achievement is not accomplished by chance, but by patience, work, perseverance and well-thought-out plans.
