Astana celebrates the New Year
Astana, January 01, 2010 (Khabar) - The city is decorated with thousands of garlands, New Year fir-trees sparks in micro districts, parks and squares, illumination of buildings almost blind. Everything is decorated: homes, offices, streets, parks and town squares. Even street poles are decorated. Garlands, light constructions and ice figures are everywhere. The whole ice castle was constructed in the area of the Finance Ministry. It was called “Kingdom of snow leopard” in honor of symbol of forthcoming Asian Games.
Kanat Sultanbekov, deputy mayor of Astana:
-Every organization tried and still tries to create something new. In addition to lighting, there use banners, apply artificial snow, figures, and not in a planar image, but in three-dimensional one.
Astana began to prepare for the New Year in advance. The project of decorating was ready in October. The first New Year decorations appeared in one month, and the main New Year fir-tree was lit up in early December. This year height of the main fir-tree beat all its own record of past years.
Medet Dyusenov, head of design studio “Yelorda-Zharnama” LLP:
- The peculiarity of this new year is something that the Ak Orda fir tree turned out to be the largest tree in the country. 30-meter. There was no such a New Year fir-tree in the republic yet. But we plan to increase this height up to 35-40 meters the next year.
The abundance of artificial fir trees is one more peculiarity of this year. More than two dozen forest beauties were set up in the capital. New generation of light bulbs are used for the festive lighting of the city used. They save energy consumption and can be used for much more time.
This year, the city administration declared a competition for the best New Year decoration. In the final jury reviewed more than 70 applications from companies, institutions and organizations. The winners are hotel “Rixos”, house of flowers “Milan” and shopping and entertainment complex “Keruen”. They distinguished with the best lighting design, interior decoration, novelty and originality of ornaments. There is so much illumination that it perhaps can be seen from space. Thousands of colorful decorations make Astana like a fairytale city, and create the New Year mood for its residents and guests.
