Protection of coniferous trees
Ust-Kamenogorsk, December 29, 2009 (Khabar) - The supervision over fir tree saplings has been toughened in Eastern Kazakhstan. 43 mobile groups and about 60 static posts were created in the region. The policemen and foresters will guard the woods until New Year. There are almost 80% of country’s forests in Eastern Kazakhstan. And some people cut fir trees despite the ban. Last week two criminal cases were begun according to the “poaching” article.
Anatoliy Baginskiy, Zyryanovsk forestry:
- 4 round-a-clock check points as well as 4 patrol groups are now working to protect fir tree saplings. Thanks to such an activity, there has been no illegal cutting of fir trees in our forest this year yet.
Eastern Kazakhstan’s authorities placed a ban on the cutting of fir tree samplings 10 years ago and such kind of trees cannot be sold. All the trees are grown after people place orders while such a venture is referred to as labour- and cost-consuming. While growing them, specialists take into account such features as soil, watering and delivery. For instance, this is a lot to be sent to Astana under the Presidential capital city greenery expansion programme.
Sergei Osintsev, deputy chief, nature conservation and veterinary service, East Kazakhstan Police Department:
- Europe normally uses artificial trees while real fir trees are planted in front of houses to make it serve people for a long time.
Poachers have hard times trying to cut some trees as each vehicle leaving the forestry is checked with a helicopter, which is on daily duty patrolling the forest. Police officers believe a loud sound may make poachers keep away from the forest.
