Ranong offers free durians in July

RANONG, June 6 (TNA) - Ranong province promotes locally-grown durians in Kraburi district, offering free durians for visitors on July 29. Ranong Governor Chatupoj Piyumputara said the durian festival will be held at the sports field in Jor Por Ror sub-district. Durian growers will select at least 1,000 durians or about 2,500 kilogrammes to serve tourists for free. Famous Monthong and Kanyao durians will be available. The event is aimed at promoting locally-grown durians as many people do not know Jor Por Ror subdistrict is the high quality durian cultivation area in the South. No chemical is used in production there. Apart from free tasty durians, there will be a durian contest, demonstration of fried durians, a durian eating contest. Durian orchards encompass about 6,000 rai (2,400 acres) of area. Local people earn an income of about 200 million baht yearly or about 500,000- 1,000,000 baht per family from growing durians. (TNA)
