Iran, Philippines call for expansion of ties

TEHRAN,July 11(MNA) – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ramin Mehmanparast said that Tehran seeks to expand ties with all countries, particularly Asian countries such as the Philippines.
Mehmanparast made the remarks during a meeting with Filipino Undersecretary for International Economic Relations Laura Q. Del Rosario in Manila on Wednesday.
Mehmanparast, who is also the head of Foreign Ministry’s Center for Public and Media Diplomacy, said that Iran had enormous potential in various economic, industrial, and agricultural sectors and was ready to cooperate and exchange its expertise with the Philippines so as to increase bilateral relations.
He also called for holding a ceremony to honor the 50th year of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Tehran and Manila, which he said could help bolster ties.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian diplomat pointed to the Islamic Republic’s position toward regional and international developments and emphasized that the new Iranian administration will make efforts to increase relations with the outside world.
He also called on the West to seize the opportunity to establish a balanced and fair relationship with Iran, which would serve the common interests and help promote peace and stability in the world.
The Filipino official, for his part, congratulated the Iranian nation on the election of Hassan Rohani, saying that the election mirrored the developed and dynamic political atmosphere in Iran.
She also expressed hope that the two countries would continue exchanging visits in line with effort to promote relations in trade, sports, and media sectors.
She added that she would pay a visit to Tehran in the near future.
