SC Hosts First One Tide Industry Coalition Workshop

Doha, March 21 (QNA) - Following the successful launch of the One Tide Industry Coalition by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC), the body held its first workshop at Al Thumama Stadium recently. The event aimed to translate the endorsements and commitments made at the launch in December 2022 – during the FIFA World Cup – into a tangible action plan towards the common goal of plastic diversion from landfill and a circular economy in Qatar. Attendees, which included local, regional and global organisations, learned more on recycling, renewable materials and diverting waste from landfill during presentations from the SC, MECC and coalition members. A summary of best practices and group workshops were also held. The one-day workshop proposed a number of solutions to address challenges related to plastic waste management. By the end of the session, a high-level project plan was implemented to encourage stakeholders to adopt sustainable consumption and production practices. "The coalition brings together experts from across the field of sustainability and is an example of the strong legacy that Qatar 2022 will have in this area," said Eng. Bodour Al Meer, the SC's Sustainability Executive Director. "Our meeting today strengthened this network and looked at ways we can utilise a circular economy." "We are committed to addressing the impact of climate change on Qatar in light of the urban, economic and social progress being witnessed by our country," said Eng. Mohamed Al Badr, the MECC's Head of Sustainable Practices. "Circular economies enable us to conserve resources and preserve our environment for future generations." The coalition aims to leverage Qatar's successful hosting of the FIFA World Cup to promote awareness and positive environmental actions to support the local economy. Launched by the SC in March 2022 and delivered by Seven Clean Seas, One Tide is a programme that raises awareness and engagement on the issue of plastic pollution in Qatar. (QNA)
