THREE IRANIANS DETAINED, US$3.94 MIL WORTH OF DRUGS SEIZED
NILAI (Malaysia), Feb 6 (Bernama) -- Three Iranians, including two women,
were detained by Customs while trying to smuggle in drugs worth RM13.6 million
US$3.94 million) at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang
Friday night.
Customs Investigations Director Zainul Abidin Taib said the Iranians
had arrived via flight EK342 from Dubai at about 10pm Friday night.
"They brought in two bags and upon inspection, found drugs and a few
clothes," he told reporters at the Customs Narcotics Department headquarters
here Saturday.
He added that the drugs, believed to be Syabu, found in one bag was 27.39
kilograms while the other contained 27.15 kilograms, also Syabu.
"The two women were in their 40s and 20s while the man who accompanied them
was in his 40s," he said.
If convicted, the three Iranians who would be charged under the Dangerous
Drugs Act 1952, face the death penalty.
Zainul added that those who have information of attempts to smuggle drugs,
can contact the Customs Department at 1-800-88-8855 (toll-free) or 06-7917792
and such informers would be rewarded.
