PRESIDENT NOT TO RESHUFFLE CABINET :OBSERVER
Jakarta, Feb 13 (ANTARA) - Political observer Bachtiar Effendy predicted President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono would not reshuffle his cabinet as his Democrat Party wanted him to do.
"If he does, the coalition of parties that support his government will collapse," Bachtiar said at a discussion on "If Coaliton Breaks Down" here on Saturday.
He said actually the Democrat Party needed the other parties to support the government.
With their suppport, he said, the composition of legislative members supporting the government in the parliament would be stronger.
The socio-political lecturer of the Islam University of Jakarta said he considered the proposal for a cabinet reshuffle as a mere bluff to curb moves of the parties in the House committee currently investigating the Bank Century case.
Bachtiar even challenged the Democrat Party to propose replacing ministers from the Golkar Party and the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS).
He said it would not be a problem for Golkar and PKS to leave the coalition.
"The life of political parties would not end by the dissolution of the coalition. They would continue preparing themselves for the 2014 general elections," he said.
Golkar Party executive Priyo Budi Santoso meanwhile said the party's chief and President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono had talked and the two wished for the continuation of the coalition until 2014.
He said the meeting between Yudhoyono and Aburizal was good news for Golkar because it meant the two leaders kept communicating well.
However, he added, Golkar would remain anticipative towards the worst scenario. "If it really happens Golkar will take the worst alternative, namely leave the coalition," he said.
He said Golkar chairman Aburizal Bakrie had already met with the ministers from the party this week and told them to adhere to party's stance in case a reshuffle really happened.
"The three ministers agreed," he said.
