MALAYSIA, SOUTH KOREA RELATIONS BASED ON TRUST

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 13 (Bernama) -- Over the past five decades, Malaysia and
South Korea enjoyed a friendly and mutually beneficial relationship based on
trust and cooperation, Deputy Foreign Minister Senator A. Kohilan Pillay said.

Furthermore, he said, the Malaysian Government always supported efforts to
enrich and educate the general public, especially in sharing, as well as
promoting the heritage and culture of other countries.

He said Malaysia had high regard for the Korean resilience, outstanding
performance in manufacturing, film and drama production, among others.

Kohilan said this at the Korean New Year Festival organised by the Korean
School of Malaysia here Saturday.

He said the South Korean community in Malaysia had been working hard to
educate its students to live in harmony, as well as work together and enhance
cooperation with Malaysian students.

On the Korean School, he said it had grown from an enrolment of 51 students
at its inception in 1974, to over 480 students currently.

The Korean work ethics and culture, he noted, had undoubtly inspired
Malaysians to embark on their 'Look East Policy', which till now, remained one
of the main pillars of bilateral relations.

While 15,000 South Koreans worked or pursued higher education in the
country, Kohilan said 7,000 Malaysians were employed in companies and factories
in the other country.
