BANGLADESH ART EXHIBITION AT NATIONAL ART GALLERY




KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 19 (Bernama) -- A 10-day art exhibition featuring eminent
Bangladesh artists opened at the National Art Gallery Malaysia Friday.

The event is in commemoration of the 10th International Mother Language Day
and 58th Language Martyrs Day of Bangladesh.

Academy of National Art Culture and Heritage Rector Dr Mohammed Najib
Ahmad Dawa officiated the opening ceremony.

Buriganga Arts & Crafts curator Rafique Sulayman said the exhibition was
designed to explain the Bangladeshi art to the people to enable them to learn
and understand it.

At the exhibition, there are 52 works of art by 17 artists such as the late
Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin (Founding Father of Bangladesh art) and the late
Quamrul Hasan. They are on display for the first time in Malaysia.

The other works of art are by Samarjit Roy Choudhury, Rafiqun Nabi, Jamal
Ahmed, Muhammad Eunus and Hamidizzaman Khan.

Describing his sculpture, Bangladesh artist Mojibur Rahman said it related
to Bangladesh's founding father, Bangabandu Sheik Majibur Rahman who inspired
the people of Bangladesh in Bengali nationalism movement and independence.

Another Bangladesh artist, Maksuda Iqbal Nipa, said her art was an
expression of the heart.
