NAJIB TO OPEN SYMPOSIUM ON ECONOMIC CRIME AT CAMBRIDGE VARSITY
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 25 (Bernama) -- Malayian Prime Minister Najib Razak is to open
a symposium on economic crime at the University of Cambridge in the United
Kingdom, that will help delegates understand the real issues in preventing and
controlling economically-motivated serious crimes.
Former Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad will deliver a lecture
entitled "The Global Corporate Debacles of the 21st Century: Building Corporate
Resilience Through Governance and Integrity."
Some of the Malaysian speakers are Chief Justice Zaki Azmi, Attorney-General
Abdul Gani Patail and Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Minister
Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
Entitled "The Regional Cambridge International Symposium on Economic Crime", the
three-day event from June 22 is jointly hosted by the Companies Commission of
Malaysia (CCM) and the Centre for International Documentation on Economic and
Organised Crime.
The symposium will be held at Jesus College at the University of Cambridge, the
first time outside Malaysia in the past 27 years, said CCM Chief Executive
Officer Azmi Ariffin.
Themed "Attaining Corporate Resilience Through Governance and Integrity", it
aims to raise thought-provoking issues and debates on current cases of
corporate collapses that had caused the 2008/2009 global economic and financial
crises.
Among topics to be discussed are corruption and dealings, insiders and conflicts
of fiduciary duties, fraud controls and unraveling of corporate crimes, he
added.
