INDONESIA THIRD LARGEST COFFEE EXPORTER IN GERMANY
London, April 3 (ANTARA) - Despite the global crisis, Indonesia was successful in exporting about 84,000 tons of coffee to Germany in 2009, the Indonesian Consulate General in Hamburg said.
According to the Consulate General's press statement made available to ANTARA here Friday, Indonesia has been the third largest coffee exporter in Germany after Brazil and Vietnam.
Secretary General of the German Coffee Association Holger Preibisch said German coffee consumers liked the Indonesia's Robusta and Arabica coffees due to their special tastes and good quality.
Holger's meeting with the Indonesian Consul General in Hamburg Teuku Darmawan recently was also attended by main German coffee importers.
At the meeting, Teuku Darmawan hoped that Indonesia could export more coffee to Germany this year.
Therefore, the Indonesian Consulate General in the Hamburg-based Indonesian Trade Promotion Center would work with the German coffee association to promote Indonesian coffee.
In addition, Indonesia also planned to participate in some international coffee promotion events this year, he said.
Over the past years, German coffee consumers have known such Indonesian coffee as Luwak, Toraja, Flores and Aceh-Gayo coffees.
They enjoyed these various Indonesian coffee at cafes in Germany.
In 2009, Indonesian coffee exports reached 108 million Euros, down about 25 percent compared to that of 2008.
