CAIRO, October 26 (Itar-Tass) -- Tajikistan supports efforts of the
Afghan leadership to achieve stability in this country, Tajik President
Emomali Rakhmon, who arrived in Kabul for an official visit, said.
Speaking at a joint press conference after talks with his Afghan
counterpart Hamid Karzai, as the local press reports on Tuesday, Rakhmon
stressed that not only Afghanistan encounters the terrorist threat, but
its neighbour states, too." "The government of Tajikistan supports
international efforts to combat terrorism and extremism," he said.
According to local information sources, the two countries' presidents
discussed the situation on the almost 1,300-kilometre-long Afghan-Tajik
border and considered issues of combating contraband of drugs. Besides,
the sides touched upon the problem of expanding influence of the terrorist
grouping Al Qaeda on the situation in Afghanistan. Official Dushanbe, as
analysts note, excites serious apprehension regarding the influence of the
acute conflict in Afghanistan on Central Asian states.
The sides also considered energy projects and plans of building roads,
including a road between Tajikistan, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
