Bagapsh awarded Hero of Abkhazia title posthumously

SUKHUM, July 7 (Itar-Tass) -- The late president of Abkhazia, Sergei
Bagapsh, has been awarded the title of Hero of Abkhazia posthumously.
The title was awarded to Bagapsh for "planning and supervising the
military operation to free the upper part of the Kodori Gorge from
Georgian occupants", which was carried out without losses and for
"restoring the territorial integrity of the Republic of Abkhazia".
Acting President Alexander Ankvab signed the relevant decree on
Wednesday, July 6.
Bagapsh also received Abkhazia's highest award - the Order of Honour
and Glory, 1st Degree "for outstanding service to the people and the
state, for a big personal contribution to the development and
international recognition of the Republic of Abkhazia".
First Abkhazian President Sergei Bagapsh died at a hospital in Moscow
on May 29, 2011 at the age of 62.
