Malaysia Kick Off AFF U-19 Championship In Style By Whipping The Philippines 5-0

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 14 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia's national Under-19 (U-19) football squad kicked off their Asean U-19 Football Championship campaign in style by whipping the Philippines 5-0 in their first Group A match at the Hang Day Stadium in Hanoi, Vietnam, on Tuesday. The young national squad opened accounts in the 37th minute through Mohamad Hariz Kamarudin, who headed in a corner kick by Muhammad Shah Amirul Mohd Zamri. Four minutes later Muhammad Jafri Muhammad Firdaus Chew doubled the lead with a well taken free-kick from 25 metres out. Coach Frank Bernhardt's boys added three more goals in the second half through a penalty by Muhammad Shah Amirul in the 75th minute, Mohamed Syamer Kutty Abba (79th minute) and Badrul Amin Rusalan (89th minute). Malaysia is scheduled to meet Singapore next, while Philippines will play against hosts Vietnam on Thursday at the same venue. For the record, the Philippines had lost 1-2 to Timor Leste in a Group A first match held at the Hang Day Stadium. --BERNAMA
