EC ready to organise general election

BANGKOK, June 9 (TNA) -- The Election Commission (EC) is well prepared to organise a general election in Thailand, said EC chairman Supachai Somcharoen. Assuring people that the EC is prepared for the general election, Mr Supachai said political parties should not worry that his agency would take sides and that it would strictly follow the election law and procedures. Budget allocated by the government to the EC to organise the upcoming election for members of the House of Representatives is now set at 5.8 billion baht, up 2 billion baht set preveiously, he said. While budget allocated to the EC to organise an election for senators is set at 1.2 billion baht, down from 2 billion baht set before, said Mr Supchai. The general election is expected to held next February. (TNA)
