The Peninsula: Qatar, Peru Ties Remain Strong

Doha, July 29 (QNA) - In its editorial on Thursday, The Peninsula English newspaper hailed bilateral ties between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Peru, which celebrated its 200th independence anniversary yesterday. The newspaper said that Qatar and Perus relationship is based on the rule of law, with mutual respect in policies based on cooperation, political dialogue, promotion of trade and investments. The paper underlined that the visit of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to Peru in October 2018, received by then President, Martin Alberto Vizcarra, boosted the already strong bilateral ties with the signing of various agreements and memorandums of understanding that enhanced the close relationship between the countries, adding that earlier, HH the Amir hosted former president Ollanta Humala in Doha. Qatar and Peru, the paper said, have enjoyed a seamless bilateral relation spanning the economy, trade, investment, education, and sport, pointing out that diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1989. The Embassy of Peru in Doha was inaugurated in 2011, while Qatar inaugurated its Embassy in the Peruvian capital Lima in 2012, the paper added. Further boosting the partnership between both countries, the Qatari-Peruvian Parliamentary Friendship Society was established in 2013, with the aim to strengthen Qatar and Peru's diplomatic roles and enhance the friendly relations between the two countries, the paper said. Recently, Qatar has provided aid to Peru in to support the country's efforts to confront Covid-19 pandemic, as the Qatar Red Crescent Society, in partnership with the Peruvian Red Cross, distributed medical aid, the paper said, noting Peruvian authorities praise for Qatar's valuable support that allowed front-line workers to confront the pandemic. The Peninsula concluded that Qatar and Peru's relationship is based on the rule of law, with mutual respect in policies based on cooperation, political dialogue, promotion of trade and investments, the importance of human rights, the fight against poverty, terrorism, environmental conservation, education, and health.
