OLD TIGER DIES AT JAMBI ZOO
Jambi, May 19 (ANTARA) - Rangga, a 24-year old male Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae) at Taman Rimbo Park in Jambi province was found dead at 5 am on Saturday, May 16,2009, Nature Conservation head of Jambi Didi Wurjanto said here on Tuesday.
"We believe the tiger died of old age after 13 years living in the Taman Rimbo Park. The remains of the endangered species is now undergoing an autopsy at the laboratory of the local animal husbandry office," he said.
He said Rangga was about 23-24 years old and several days before he died he looked very weak, despite medical treatment from a veterinarian.
It is expected that in one or two days the causes of Rangga's death would be known and made public, he said.
