Seoul stocks start weaker on security concerns
SEOUL, May 28 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks got off to a weak start Thursday,
damped by security risks and overnight U.S. losses, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) dropped 2.8 points, or
0.21 percent, to 1,359.22 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
Investors were watchful of geopolitical risks as North Korea ramped up military
threats against the South following its nuclear tests on Monday.
Market confidence also took a beating from Wall Street losses on Wednesday after
dimming economic recovery hopes sent the Dow Jones industrial average closing
down 2.05 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,277.25 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15
a.m., down 7.85 won from Wednesday's close.
