Centre to consult Delhi CM on Sreedharan's resignation
New Delhi, Jul 12 (PTI) Union Urban Development Minister
S Jaipal Reddy Sunday said a decision on DMRC (Delhi Metro
Rail Corporation) Managing Director E Sreedharan's resignation
will be taken after discussions with Delhi Chief Minister
Sheila Dikshit.
Reddy said he cannot make any decision without consulting
Dikshit as the DMRC chief is nominated by the Delhi
government.
"The accident in Delhi is very unfortunate and an inquiry
has been ordered in the matter. So, we cannot make any comment
until we get an authentic report about the accident," he said.
On Sreedharan's resignation, he said: "Sreedharan is the
architect of DMRC and I have learned that he has resigned and
we will take a view after I talk to the Chief Minister of
Delhi."
"In such a huge project some unfortunate incidents happen.
I do not take the incident out of proportion. There is a need
to take a balanced view," he told a television channel from
Hyderabad.
"I cannot make a decision because I have to consult the
Chief Minister. Even if one life is lost it is unfortunate. We
have to take preventive measures and learn lessons from every
accident. The track record of DMRC is otherwise magnificent,"
he said.
Reddy said Sreedharan should get "unqualified compliments"
for the work he did in Delhi Metro. "He may have resigned on
moral grounds..." PTI SKT
