Dam construction
Astana, September 04 2009, Khabar – Astana dam is to be commissioned soon. The construction of a dam is about to end in Astana. Next spring, it is expected to protect the left-bank area of the city from flooding. The deputy prime minister Umirzak Shukeyev personally inspected the facility.
Umirzak Shukeyev, first deputy prime minister of RK:
- During September we will be working on the fortification of this facility so the dam can be used fully to protect the city from next spring’s flood.
The dam will be 31 kilometre in length. The implementation of this 13 billion tenge project was launched 3 years ago which helped construction companies secure jobs during the financial crisis. The reconstruction of the Ishim river bed is the next phase in the anti-flood campaign. A special channel will be built there to redirect snowmelt waters to the Ishim River.
