National calligraphy exhibition under the name “Script of eternal sky” was opened at the National art gallery. The exhibition is dedicated to the day of birth of great Chinggis Khaan or the National Pride Day commemorated according to the decree of the President of Mongolia that aimes to promote the use of traditional Mongolian script.
Head of state Mr Elbegdorj who has attended the opening ceremony that is organized for the fifth time noted that “this widely used script is uniting many other dialects spoken in different parts of Mongolia”.
According to the decree of the President, a special programme promoting the use and studying of traditional Mongolian script has been in operation since July 2010.
Many alphabets have been devised for the Mongolian language over the centuries such as old Uyghur alphabet or traditional script, new script called Soyombo, the todo mongolian script, Mongolian square script and so on.
At present, special measures are needed to attract young people to the traditional art of writing and to safeguard and revitalize the tradition of Mongolian script and calligraphy.
In recent years, number of participants in the exhibition “Script of eternal sky” is increasing and the aesthetic quality of their calligraphic compositions has been improving from year to year.
The exhibition is to run untill November 24th.
